Alejandro Escovedo & David Pulkingham – Light Of Day – Honerkamps Ballsaal, Melle, Germany – 04. December 2010

The second edition of “Light Of Day” in Germany should become my first personal experience of Mr. Escovedo. I have been a huge fan since I discovered his magnificent songwriting through his piece “Tired Skin”, masterfully covered by Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes on their 2005 release “Into the Harbor”.

In Melle we were up for an acoustic night – again – with the main-lineup of Joe D’Urso, Willie Nile & Alejandro Escovedo accompanied by the genius David Pulkingham…

Alejandro’s & David’s set(s) were probably those, where you could hear the audience breathing and the famous needle falling… PUREST INTENSITY. And that Mr. Pulkingham was playing me with my back to the wall… WOW! Virtuousness… that’s what it’s called…

Now I have seen numbers of videos by Alejandro. Acoustic only accompanied by David as well as with his band “The Sensitive Boys”… I like every one of them a lot (and, for sure, will put some more up on this page as well), but those created during the “Light Of Day” tour in 2010 keep being my favourites.

Ok… Willie (according to Wikipedia) was born 1948. That makes him, hmmmmm, 17 years older than I am..?! Well… if that is true, then I only wish, that, in 17 years, I may only have half the power, the positive energy and the spirit, that man brings on a stage 200 times a year…

What an experience it has been, seeing him with the whole Light-Of-Day bunch of great artists on my favorite stage at Honerkamps Ballsaal in Melle.

He promised to be back next year. Be sure, I will!
